Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are a modern orthodontic treatment that gradually straighten teeth using a series of custom-made, removable transparent trays, no fixed brackets, no wires. You may know them by brand names like Invisalign, but there are several systems on the market at varying price points, each suited to different clinical needs. Below we explain the options available at This Is It Dental, what they cost, and how to know which is right for you.
Why In-Person Clinical Monitoring Is Vital
At This Is It Dental, Dr. Rena Uberoi provides highly managed adult orthodontic care, guided from start to finish by meticulous clinical oversight. Finding a practice that prioritises comprehensive monitoring over volume is essential when exploring clear aligners in London.
We are direct about this: we do not support direct-to-consumer mail-order aligner kits that bypass regular dental visits. Orthodontic tooth movement involves applying continuous physical force to remodel the living bone surrounding your roots. Without in-person evaluations, digital X-rays, and routine biological monitoring at each stage, this process carries real risks, including mobile teeth, severe root resorption (the dissolving of your own tooth roots), and permanent bite damage.
The Systems We Trust
Dr. Uberoi prescribes the aligner system best suited to your unique anatomical needs, not a single branded solution applied to every patient.

Your Journey Step-by-Step
-
Orthodontic Assessment & 3D Scanning
Periodontal health, bone levels, and bite mechanics are fully assessed. We use the Trios 3Shape intraoral scanner to capture a highly accurate 3D digital model of your teeth in minutes, no putty, no discomfort.
-
Digital Treatment Simulation
Using advanced planning software, we map the exact millimetric trajectory of every tooth root. We review this 3D simulation on-screen with you, showing how your teeth will move week by week and your predicted final result, before a single aligner is manufactured.
-
The Pre-Aligner Phase
Unique to This Is It Dental: we provide patients with a set of pre-aligners before the active sequence begins. This allows you to experience the feel, speech adjustment, and daily routine of wearing aligners before fully committing, removing much of the uncertainty from the start of treatment.
-
Active Aligner Therapy
You receive your bespoke sequence of clear trays. Each is worn 22 hours per day, removed only to eat, drink anything other than water, and to brush. Every one to two weeks, you progress to the next tray in the sequence.
-
Clinical Monitoring & Refinement
You attend every four to six weeks. We check that your teeth are tracking precisely to the digital blueprint, assess your periodontal health, and review bone levels throughout active treatment.
-
Long-Term Retention
Once alignment is achieved, custom-fitted retainers are provided to wear overnight, this may be a removable clear retainer, a fixed wire bonded discreetly behind the teeth, or a combination of both depending on your case. This is a critical biological step that allows the surrounding bone to fully densify around the roots in their new positions, permanently preventing orthodontic relapse.

Frequently asked questions
How long does adult clear aligner treatment take?
Minor cosmetic alignment, correcting mild crowding or closing small gaps in the front teeth, can often be completed in four to six months. More complex cases involving full-arch corrections or significant bite changes typically take 12 to 18 months. We provide a precise, data-driven timeline at your simulation appointment.
Are clear aligners painful to wear?
You will not experience sharp pain. When you transition to a new tray, there is a distinct sensation of pressure or tightness for the first 24 to 48 hours, a normal, expected indicator that the aligner is actively applying the calculated force. Our pre-aligner phase helps patients adjust to this sensation before the active sequence begins.
Will wearing aligners affect how I speak?
When you first insert your aligners, you may notice a minor lisp for the first few days as your tongue adapts to the plastic. This is temporary and typically resolves within 48 to 72 hours. Our unique pre-aligner phase is specifically designed to help patients navigate this transition comfortably.
How do I clean my aligners?
Clean every morning and evening with a soft-bristled toothbrush and lukewarm water or a gentle, non-abrasive soap. Avoid hot water, high temperatures warp the precision thermoplastic and alter the calculated fit of the tray, compromising the tooth movement trajectory.
Why do I need retainers after treatment is finished?
When your aligners are removed, your teeth are in their new positions but the surrounding bone has not yet fully consolidated around the roots. Without retainers, the natural elastic fibres of the gum pull the teeth back towards their original positions, a process called orthodontic relapse. Wearing retainers overnight long-term is the only reliable way to preserve the result permanently. We provide every patient with a Dental Pod to keep their retainers clean and safely stored between wears.
Will my bite need adjusting once my teeth have finished moving?
Sometimes, yes. Moving teeth into better alignment can occasionally leave small, uneven contacts once the larger movements are complete, patients often describe this as the bite feeling slightly "off" after finishing aligner treatment, and if left unaddressed it can contribute to TMJ symptoms. Where this occurs, we carry out very small, precise bite-balancing adjustments to settle the bite comfortably. This is one of the reasons we review your bite carefully at the end of every course of aligner treatment, particularly for patients with a history of TMJ issues.
