General Dentistry

General dentistry covers the full picture of your oral health, from routine examinations and hygiene through to fillings, extractions, and everything in between. At This Is It Dental, Dr. Rena Uberoi leads a team of dentists, each with a special interest in their own discipline, so every aspect of your care is handled by someone with real depth of experience in that area.

The Comprehensive Examination

A new patient consultation at our clinic is a thorough clinical assessment, not a brief visual check. Dr. Rena Uberoi and her team evaluate the health of your teeth, gums, and functional bite mechanics with the same rigour applied to every patient, regardless of how straightforward the case may initially appear.

Using digital imaging, we screen for early signs of decay, failing restorations, and structural wear. A routine oral cancer screening is conducted as a standard part of every comprehensive appointment, not an optional extra. Following the assessment, we review the digital findings with you on-screen, providing an objective and clear understanding of your oral health before any treatment is proposed. Nothing is recommended without clinical justification, and unlike in many high-volume practices, nothing is rushed.

Core Clinical Services

Depending on your clinical needs, Dr. Uberoi and the team provide seamless access to the following:

  • Preventive Care & Hygiene

Routine monitoring and advanced periodontal cleaning to safely remove plaque, calculus, and bacterial biofilm using Aquacare Airflow and laser technologies, with none of the harsh metal scraping associated with high-volume practices.

  • Tooth Restoration

Removing active decay and restoring the tooth's structural integrity using high-grade composite resins that bond chemically to the enamel and mimic the natural strength of your tooth, preserving as much natural tooth as possible.

  • Endodontics

Treating infection inside the tooth's nerve chamber to prevent extraction, utilising precision rotary instruments and Biolase laser decontamination for thorough canal sterilisation.

  • Surgical Extractions

Removing severely compromised or impacted teeth, including wisdom teeth, under effective local anaesthesia using conservative sectioning techniques designed to preserve the surrounding bone.

  • Bite Management

Diagnosing jaw tension and bruxism (teeth grinding) using T-Scan digital bite analysis, managed with custom-milled occlusal splints to protect your teeth and jaw joints from severe mechanical wear.

Care for the Anxious Patient

Dental anxiety is a recognised barrier to care, and our clinic environment is specifically structured to alleviate it. Appointments are booked with ample, unhurried time. Dr. Rena Uberoi and her team explain each clinical step clearly before proceeding, and we do not begin any treatment until you are completely numb and entirely ready. You control the pace of the appointment at all times, if you need to pause, you simply raise your hand. We stop.

Many of our patients have delayed care for years, sometimes decades, due to past difficult experiences. There is no judgement here. What matters is that you leave with a clear understanding of your oral health and a manageable plan for what comes next, at a pace that is entirely yours to set.

Frequently asked questions

What should I expect if I haven't seen a dentist in several years?

We see many patients who have delayed care due to anxiety or scheduling conflicts, and you will never be made to feel embarrassed about that here. Our primary goal during your first visit is to establish a clear baseline of your oral health, address any immediate pain, and create a manageable, step-by-step plan to restore your mouth to health at your own pace. Dr. Rena Uberoi takes particular care with patients who have had difficult experiences elsewhere, the appointment is yours to control from start to finish.

Are digital X-rays necessary, and are they safe?

Digital X-rays are essential for diagnosing issues hidden below the gum line or between teeth, early-stage decay, bone loss, or infections that are entirely invisible on clinical examination alone. We use advanced digital radiography, which reduces radiation exposure by up to 90% compared to traditional film, making it highly safe and diagnostically far superior.

What does an oral cancer screening involve?

It is a painless, entirely non-invasive visual and physical examination. We thoroughly check your lips, tongue, gums, palate, and the soft tissues of your throat and neck for any cellular abnormalities, lumps, or lesions. Early detection is critical, which is why Dr. Rena Uberoi includes it as a standard part of every comprehensive examination, not an optional extra.

How often should I attend a routine examination?

While every six months is a standard starting point, clinical needs vary considerably. We advise a recall schedule based strictly on your specific risk profile for decay and periodontal disease. For some patients, annual visits are entirely appropriate. For those with a history of gum disease or high decay risk, more frequent monitoring is clinically sensible.

I brush and floss daily. Do I still need to see a hygienist?

Yes. Even with excellent home care, microscopic plaque naturally hardens into calculus (tartar) in areas a toothbrush cannot physically reach. Once calculus forms, it cannot be removed at home, it requires specialist clinical instruments. Left untreated, it is the primary driver of periodontal (gum) disease, which causes irreversible bone loss around your teeth.

How are dental emergencies handled?

We keep emergency slots in our daily schedule precisely for this. When unexpected pain or trauma occurs, we prioritise your case, prepare the necessary diagnostics before you arrive, and ensure you leave the appointment free of pain with a clear plan for any permanent restoration required. For urgent matters, please call the practice directly.
