White Fillings
White fillings, also known as composite restorations, are the modern alternative to traditional metal amalgam fillings. Made from a tooth-coloured resin that bonds directly to your tooth structure, they restore both the appearance and strength of a damaged tooth while preserving as much natural enamel as possible. At This Is It Dental, every restoration is placed with care and precision, because a filling done well is one you should never have to think about again.
The Biomimetic Approach
Dr. Rena Uberoi's goal is not simply to restore a tooth, it is to restore the tooth's original strength while preserving the absolute maximum amount of healthy, natural enamel. We exclusively use high-grade, biocompatible composite resins that bond chemically to your tooth structure, ensuring a seamless, long-lasting restoration that actively holds the surrounding walls of the tooth together rather than sitting passively inside them.
We dedicate extended appointment times to every restorative procedure. Composite work is highly technique-sensitive: properly layering, sculpting, and polishing the resin so that the final restoration integrates invisibly with your natural tooth takes time. We take that time. We never drill away healthy, sound enamel to create a mechanical hold; we only remove what is genuinely decayed.
The Clinical Process: What to Expect
-
Diagnostics & Shade Matching
We first review digital X-rays to assess the exact depth and extent of the decay. We then meticulously match the shade, opacity, and tint of the composite resin to perfectly replicate your natural tooth colour.
-
Complete Anaesthesia
Topical numbing gel is applied before the injection. We do not begin any clinical work until you are completely numb and comfortable, your comfort is the prerequisite, not an afterthought.
-
Conservative Preparation
Using precision instruments, we carefully remove only the infected, decayed tissue. All surrounding healthy enamel is left entirely intact.
-
Layering & Bonding
The prepared tooth is conditioned and a medical-grade bonding agent applied. The composite resin is then applied in thin, carefully sculpted layers, each instantly hardened using a focused LED curing light, which chemically bonds the resin to the tooth structure.
-
Refinement & Polishing
Once the cavity is fully restored, we shape the anatomy of the filling so your bite closes perfectly. The restoration is then polished to recreate the natural gloss, texture, and light-reflecting properties of human enamel.
Clinical Benefits of Composite Resin
-
Structural Reinforcement
Bonded composite actively holds the walls of the tooth together, preventing the micro-fractures associated with older, non-bonded materials that sat inside the tooth without adhering to it.
-
Thermal Stability
Composite resin does not expand and contract with temperature changes the way metal does, protecting the tooth from stress-induced cracking over time.
-
Aesthetic Integration
The restoration becomes entirely invisible, allowing you to speak, laugh, and smile without any indication that clinical work has been done.

Frequently asked questions
Will I experience pain during the procedure?
Absolutely not. We use advanced local anaesthetics and ensure the area is completely numb before we begin. You may feel a slight vibration or sensation of pressure, but you will not experience any sharp pain. You are always in control of the pacing.
Should I have my old, dark metal fillings replaced?
We advocate a conservative approach. If an older amalgam filling is stable, intact, and biologically sound, we do not recommend drilling it out solely for cosmetic reasons, this places unnecessary mechanical stress on the tooth. However, if the old filling is leaking, causing the tooth to crack, or showing signs of active decay underneath it on digital X-ray, we will carefully remove it and restore the tooth with a biomimetic composite.
How long do composite fillings last?
With excellent oral hygiene, regular clinical check-ups, and a balanced bite, high-quality composite fillings typically last between 7 and 10 years, often considerably longer. Heavy grinding can shorten this; if bruxism is identified, we will discuss a custom night guard to protect your restorations.
Will I experience sensitivity after the filling?
Mild temperature sensitivity for a few days after a deep filling is entirely normal as the nerve inside the tooth settles. The advanced medical bonding agents we use are specifically designed to seal the dentine tubules immediately, which drastically minimises post-operative discomfort.
Can I eat immediately after the appointment?
Yes, composite resin is fully hardened by the LED curing light during the appointment, so the filling is at full strength before you leave the chair. We simply advise waiting until the local anaesthetic has worn off before eating, to avoid accidentally biting your cheek or lip.
